Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V.

Fraunhofer EMFT (Institute for Electronic Microsystems and Solid State Technologies) conducts cutting-edge applied research on sensors and actuators for people and the environment. The over hundred employees in the three locations in Munich, Oberpfaffenhofen and Regensburg possess impressive long-term experience and extensive know-how in the fields of microelectronics and microsystem technology. These nano- and micro-technologies are the basis for the other competence areas at Fraunhofer EMFT: sensor solutions, safe and secure electronics, micropumps and circuit design. Our pilot line offers the infrastructure to also develop truly scalable qubit structures and quantum circuits within an industry-compatible CMOS standard. The interdisciplinary interaction of these competencies enables the development of truly novel solutions, putting Fraunhofer EMFT in an ideal position for tackling the current challenges of our society.

Main tasks in the project

In OpenSuperQPlus100 (OSQP), Fraunhofer EMFT is establishing manufacturing capabilities of high quality QPUs on wafer scale (200 mm) with reduced parameter variability and tolerances at all levels. The QPUs are based on a standardised benchmarking design (OSQP-standard 5-qubit chip) to quantitatively track yield, frequency uniformity, resonator quality factors and coherence times. Our efforts for taking the OSQP fabrication capabilities to scale within our fabrication pilot line are carried out together with VTT and QuantWare. The definition of clear process design rules and target specifications for the fabrication of the superconducting quantum circuits is done also together with CHALMERS, Aalto University, TU Delft and the Walther-Meissner-Institute.
